Military notes for Arthur Charles ARTHURS
1916: Private, service no. 518, 44th Infantry Battalion, AIF
1918: Sergeant. 44th Infantry Battalion, AIF
1919: Lieut., 44th Infantry Battalion, AIF
Award recommendation 1918 “On the 8th August, 1918, during the operations East of Hamel, heavy fog and smoke caused a number of troops to become disorganised and lose direction.
Sergeant ARTHURS immediately grasped the situation, collecting these men together, formed them into a platoon and led them against the enemy’s position, filling a gap in the line.
His prompt action assisted materially in the capture of the objective and in the maintenance of contact throughout our line. He set a fine example of bravery and devotion to duty.”
